We are moving to Kit.co

Over the next two weeks, we are permanently migrating the Kit community from the Kit.com domain to Kit.co, and we encourage you to update links to your Kits now to avoid severe impacts on your Kit traffic after the migration on December 8th, 2019 (See How to update your links below).

Update 12/10/2019: All Kit.com links will now continue to operate until December 15th, 2019. Please make sure to update your links before then!

Why is this happening?

When we took Kit under our wing a few months ago, the fate of the Kit.com domain was not completely settled. However, we did own Kit.co, and we knew that no matter what, we could fall back on it if needed. On November 21, the owners of Kit.com informed us that they were no longer interested in selling to us, and they were going to re-purpose the domain for a different property. We were given two weeks to prepare.

What this means for your Kit traffic

Preserving your traffic and search engine presence is our top priority. We are creating redirects so that visitors to Kit.com links will be routed to the newer Kit.co addresses while we await the domain handoff. Additionally, we are working with the owners of Kit.com to hopefully maintain these redirects for some time after they assume control of the domain. However, we cannot guarantee these redirects will last forever. So, we highly recommend you update any links to your kits that you control.

How to update your links

To permanently preserve the traffic flowing to your existing kits, update any links you have to kit.co/you/yourkit and change them to point to kit.co/you/yourkit (yes, it is as “simple” as removing the “m” in “.com”).

Links on YouTube:
We are working on a plan to convert all your YouTube description links if you connect Kit to your YouTube account. We will have more info on when the conversion will happen, soon, but you can connect your account now to be ready. (Note that you do not have to turn on the “Share your Kit profile” option after linking YouTube)

Alternatively, if you have a “Star” Plan ($20/mo) with TubeBuddy, you can automatically update all links in your video descriptions now, replacing all instances of “/kit.co/” with “/kit.co/” using their Bulk Find, Replace & Append tool.

You can also do this directly on YouTube by going to YouTube Studio > videos > select all > edit > description. Check out our step-by-step guide for more information!

Links on WordPress:
Use a find/replace plugin, like this one, to convert your Kit links.

Long live Kit

Rest assured, our team here is hard at work to make this transition as smooth as possible. We will also be trying to reach out to you individually, so hopefully, this doesn’t get missed. However, if you have friends who also use Kit, we’d appreciate your help letting them know by passing this post along.

While it’s an unfortunate timeline, with this major update behind us we will be in a better place to ensure the long term success of the site and you. We may be a lean operation but we are fully committed to ensuring that Kit remains a vivid community for creators around the world.

We’re here to help, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for being part of the Kit community!

Questions & Answers

When will my Kit.com links break?
While the owners of the Kit.com domain have offered to provide redirects from Kit.com to Kit.co we don’t know how long this offer will last. It could be for a few extra days or maybe as long as a year. With this uncertainty we encourage you to update your links as soon as possible.

I’ve still got questions, who can I talk to?
